The Collect (Opening Prayer) for Easter Day:

Lord of all life and power, who through the mighty resurrection of your Son overcame the old order of sin and death to make all things new in him: grant that we, being dead to sin and alive to you in Jesus Christ, may reign with him in glory; to whom with you and the Holy Spirit be praise and honour, glory and might, now and in all eternity. Amen

Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 25: 6- 9

On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples
a feast of rich food, a feast of well-matured wines,
of rich food filled with marrow, of well-matured wines strained clear.
And he will destroy on this mountain
the shroud that is cast over all peoples,
the sheet that is spread over all nations;
he will swallow up death for ever.
Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces,
and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth,
for the Lord has spoken.
It will be said on that day,
Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us.
This is the Lord for whom we have waited;
let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

New Testament Reading:  Acts 10: 34 – 43

Then Peter began to speak to them: ‘I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.’

Gospel Reading: Mark 16: 1 – 8

When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, ‘Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?’ When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, ‘Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.’ So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

Easter Day Dawn Service

We meet at 06:00 am at the car park by the Beach Café in Pagham, and will make our way on to the beach by the Yacht Club. Here we will celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter. Do wrap up warm, bring seats or blankets if you would like to sit down, and maybe a flask of something hot to keep you warm during the service. We will follow this with breakfast at Pagham Church- bacon/ egg rolls, tea and coffee, either walking down together or moving cars down to the church. All are very, very welcome- and, if we have moved on from the carpark by the time you arrive, do come and find us on the beach- we won’t have gone far.

The Bear Necessities

The Bear Necessities is a women’s only discussion group which meets on the second Monday of the month at The Bear pub in Pagham. All ages welcome. All views welcome. This is a safe space to discuss three current news topics and in doing so, get to know each other better. The next Bear Necessities is Monday 8th April at 7.30pm– 9pm.

Tea & Chat

Tea & Chat provides a warm, friendly space for people of the local community to meet over a cuppa and enjoy homemade bakes in the Pagham Parish Church Centre, Nyetimber Lane. Everyone is welcome, so why not join us on Wednesday 10th April from 14:30 and invite a neighbour to join you too. Looking forward to seeing you there.

With prayers and every blessing for a holy Eastertide!

Thank you to all those who have helped and contributed to our celebrations and feasting. To those who have cleaned and dressed the church; those who have prepared refreshments and welcomed visitors and friends; those who have read, sung, and prayed. Those who have journeyed faithfully: processed with palms; built gardens of witness; shared stories with our young people and those young in faith; those who have watched faithfully; those who have stood at the foot of the cross.

Our Lenten Pilgrimage for 2024 has come to an end. And now is the time to Feast. Alleluia! Christ is risen. He is risen indeed, Alleluia!

He is risen!
