Harvest Thanksgiving

Collect for the day:

Eternal God, you crown the year with your goodness and you give us the fruits of the earth in their season: grant that we may use them to your glory, for the relief of those in need and for our own well-being; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Amen

NOTICES

Africa: is the subject of the speaker, Dr Robert Palmer, at Ladies Club on Tuesday 3rd October. CHASE Africa’s name stands for Community Health And Sustainable Environment and comes from our understanding that a healthy community is dependent on a sustainable environment. Enabling women to choose the number and spacing of their children and helping communities to create a robust environment gives people a chance to leave poverty behind. It is a young and developing charity – All Welcome.

Stewardship Sundays: 8th, 15th, 22nd October – starting next Sunday we are focusing on our stewardship, thanking God for the generosity of so many in this parish and prayerfully considering where He might be leading us in the giving of money, time and talents.

Sound system: after some temperamental behaviour, the sound system is being checked on Friday 6th October. Please bear with us for now!

Helpers thanks: all are invited to attend thank-you refreshments on Sunday 15th October at 3.30pm for all that so many do for the life and witness of our church.

Church Path: Bruce Evans has for many years ensured the church path has been cleared of fallen autumn leaves to prevent it becoming slippery in wet weather and maintained the flower pots around the church during the summer months. He understandably now feels the time has come for others to take this on. If anyone is willing to join a rota for path sweeping on Saturday mornings please let me know, and if looking after the pots is your forte please speak to Bruce. – Mike Wake 07899705632.

2017 Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal: This year’s leaflets are available at the back of church – boxes for family or elderly. Filled boxes need to be returned to church by Sunday 5th November. If you feel that you are unable to fill a whole box, but would like to help, perhaps you could supply some of the items or money towards the transport costs. For further details contact Trudi – 263597/07703 597353.

Parish Book Group: Our current book is ’The Heavenly Man: The Remarkable True Story of Chinese Christian Brother Yun’ by Brother Yun and Paul Hattaway. Join a discussion group on Monday 6th November at 8pm, or Thursday 9th November at 10am. See the Book Group notice board for further information and sign-up sheets.

Bishop Luffa School: parents of Year 6 children applying for Bishop Luffa next year need to arrange to meet with Mark to fill out the Church Support Form.
