Third Sunday before Lent

Collect for the day

Almighty God, who alone can bring order to the unruly wills and passions of sinful humanity: give your people grace so to love what you command and to desire what you promise, that, among the many changes of this world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

Psalm response Light shines in the darkness for the upright.

NOTICES

We welcome Bishop Martin as he presides and preaches at our Eucharist service today.

Confirmation: Revd Canon Colin Wood is to run a preparation course soon. Contact him (264192) or the Churchwardens if you are interested.

Lent groups are starting in early March across the Bognor Churches Together area. The focus is on Henri Nouwen’s book The Return of the Prodigal Son, which looks closely at Jesus’s parable in St Luke’s gospel, ch 15. See the notice board for more details, and sign up today.

Church roof: work on the east-facing slope of the North Transept has revealed condensation, leading to mould, from a lack of felt under the old tiles. The ceiling below this and in the balcony area are being treated and repainted, which is why we now have scaffolding inside the church. The cost of this extra work is £15,000, offset by an extra £5,000 from National Churches Trust towards it. Please continue to take extra care, particularly when the contractors are working, to avoid trailing leads. Thank you for continued donations to help us reach the target.

Palm crosses: please bring last year’s crosses and place in the basket at the back of church. They will be burnt in preparation for Ash Wednesday (26th).

A thanksgiving service for the life of Lawrence Sercombe, a long-term supporter and committee member of Pagham Luncheon Club, will be held this Thursday 13th at 2 pm, at the place where he worshipped for many years: Grace Church, Terminus Road, Chichester PO19 8TX.

‘Quiet garden’ space for meditation on Wednesday 19th, 10.30 for 11 am to 1pm at Runcton Manor, Runcton Lane, PO20 1PS. Donation invited, light lunch offered afterwards. See runctonmanor.com.

Cake sale, Sunday 23rd: after the Eucharist, our Flower Team will be selling yummy home-made cakes to raise funds for this year’s Cathedral Festival of Flowers, 28-30 May. The Cathedral supplies the flowers, but our team needs to buy other materials, so come prepared to spend!

World Day of Prayer 2020 (formerly Women’s WDP): St Thomas à Becket’s is hosting the service (which features Zimbabwe) on Friday 6 March, and we need helpers for this. See the notice board for more details, and sign up to support the Pagham team.

Bognor Foodbank: please see the notice about food urgently needed on the donation crate by the church door. Thank you for your support.
