Fifth Sunday of Lent

Collect Most merciful God, who by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ delivered and saved the world: grant that by faith in him who suffered on the cross we may triumph in the power of his victory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.   Amen.

 

Lockdown 3.0: Public worship continues to be suspended at Pagham church, and the church remains closed for private prayer for now but will re-open for private prayer from Monday 29th March.

Intention: the sick in body, mind or spirit; those who have life-limiting conditions; the work of St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

Intention: the elderly, lonely and bereaved; all those in residential care and those who care for them.

Intention: all who work for peace and justice; the maintenance of good relationships with the United Nations and all other countries.

We remember Church family who live in residential care or usually receive communion at home: Catherine Morrish, Daphne Sharrad.

We pray for all affected directly by Covid-19; for charities, Church buildings and groups providing services to local communities, which have lost a great deal of income and face an uncertain future.

National Day of Reflection – 23rd March: please send the names of those who have died over the past year, and you would like remembered, in a short time of prayer to Mthr Lucy. More information can be found on the attached page.

Our ‘Roadmap’: the PCC have spent time reviewing the Government’s Roadmap out of Lockdown and guidance from the Church of England to help us look towards a return to private prayer and public worship. As such our ‘Roadmap’ will look as follows, but we will of course continue to monitor the local statistics and make adjustments as necessary.

29th March – the church will re-open for private prayer (Monday–Sunday, 10:00–16:00).

25th April – return to public worship; please note the same restrictions as before Lockdown will be in place. Booking will be necessary and will begin from Monday 19th April.

Holy Week and Easter: I am sorry to say that our Holy Week and Easter services will all be online this year (a comprehensive programme will be published next week). In addition to this the church will be open for private prayer, for those who wish to visit for some quiet reflection. On Easter Day Mthr Lucy will be at the church to give Holy Communion to those who wish to make their communion on Easter Day – this will be 1:1 with individuals/ bubbles coming in 10–min slots – timings to be announced next week.

Archdeaconry Confirmation: on 8th July the Bishop of Lewes will confirm candidates from the Archdeaconry of Chichester, at St Mary’s Littlehampton. If you are a young person in school year 9 or above, or an adult and are interested in being prepared for confirmation, please make contact with Mthr Lucy. Details on Admission to Holy Communion before Confirmation will follow after Easter, for those in Year 6 and above who are seeking this.

Churchwardens: two people have indicated that they would be willing to stand for election as churchwarden this year, if no one else comes forward. I ask you all to continue giving some prayerful thought to this subject as we seek to elect two new wardens for Pagham Church.
