NOTICES
Dennis Witcomb: Shirley and Family would like to thank everyone who attended Dennis’ Funeral Service on Wednesday 9th August. We thank everyone for their kind thoughts and loving comments written on cards, letters and emails. The beautiful Service was such a comfort to us, conducted with such love and careful preparation. We felt relaxed when we saw Mike Wake and Rosemary West on duty when we entered St Thomas’s and Ann Gristwood on the organ with her loyal choir to lead the singing. Rev Jo and Rev Canon Wood provoked such comments as: ‘ We thought the Funeral Service for Dennis was one of the most sensitive and appropriate ones we have ever been to.’
Raise the Roof: the Rotary Club has returned all the money raised by our 10K runners plus Rotary’s top-up and it came to a staggering £3280! Thank you again all our heroic runners and their generous sponsors.
Pilgrim: this autumn we are offering the Pilgrim Bible Course. It is a six-week course and all are strongly encouraged to join a group, whether you have tried Pilgrim before or not, especially as our Year of the Bible continues. Sign-up sheets are on the board.
Choral Evensong with scratch choir: all are welcome on Sunday 17th September at 3.30pm to come for an informal rehearsal for Choral Evensong followed by refreshments and then all to sing the service together at 5pm: “O Lord, open thou our lips!”
Raise The Roof Cook Book: Now available at £5.00 a copy – all proceeds to the ‘Raise the Roof Appeal’. Please see either David Smith or Trudi Kearsley if you would like to buy a copy. Thank you to all who shared their favourite recipes to allow us to create this book.
Church Families BBQ: Sunday 10th September 12.30pm at The Vicarage. All families should have received an invitation to this, please do remember to let Elise or Mark know if you are coming so they can arrange the right amount of food.
Accommodation request: a parishioner is looking for a small place to rent or a room, for no more than £500 a month. They do have a cat. Character reference can be supplied. Do speak to Mark for more information.
Parish Book Group: Our current book is ’The Handmaid’s Tale’ by Margaret Atwood. Join a discussion group on Monday 11th September at 8pm, or Thursday 14th September at 10am. See the Book Group notice board for further information and sign-up sheets.
