Sunday afternoon teas – Sorry, but we will not be open for teas this afternoon because of Pagham on Parade.
Pagham on Parade – today 11 am to 4 pm at the Village Hall.
Welcome to the Visiting Bell ringers today: a party of 30 bell ringers are travelling from Devon today to ring between 2.30 and 3.30.
We are looking for a new editor for Pews News to take over from Glenda (who is happy to have a gradual handover with the new editor). Please see Mark if you feel you could offer this ministry to the life of our church.
Pilgrimage to Walsingham – There will be a meeting after the Eucharist service on 25th August for all people going to Norfolk.
It would be of great help if you would consider signing up for the tea and coffee rota, as the list is becoming more difficult to fill. It is a simple job that requires you to bring milk (which you can be reimbursed with that same morning) and to leave the service when the last hymn starts in order to make adequate preparation. A minimum of 2 people are required. The sign up sheet for this ministry is to the right of the urn. Any queries, please speak to Jane Harmsworth tel: 265514
Families Barbecue Sunday 1st September at the vicarage 12 noon onwards
All church families welcome
Friends of St. Thomas a`Becket Golf Day Saturday 7th September

Curate for the Parish: The diocese has planned to send us a curate for training next summer. She is married with two children; name to follow shortly. This is a great compliment to Pagham: to be entrusted with giving a newly-ordained person a wide-ranging and good experience of ministry.
Mark Eminson The vicar will be away until 17th August, but the vicarage will be occupied. Please contact Colin Wood for pastoral matters phone 264192 or Glenda for practical concerns.

Collect for the day:
Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray and to give more than either we desire or deserve: pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Parish Pastoral Care Course: There will be a course next January to equip a team of `parish visitors`. Start thinking and praying about whether this might be where God is calling you and if interested, see Mark. Examples of visiting would be the bereaved, baptism families, the sick and housebound.
Communion before Confirmation: Sunday School families with children who are going into Year 5 in September (or older), but who are not yet confirmed should have a letter from Mark inviting you to attend a short course in the autumn leading up to admission to the Holy Communion. See Mark to get the letter or if you think you have been missed off.
Change in Sunday School Groups: From now on there often won`t be an older (teenage) group as confirmed children will be expected to be in church, particularly as confirmation moves to happening in the teenage years. Over this period of transition we will have a large or two (formerly called) middle groups, comprising those preparing for confirmation and those relatively recently confirmed.
