Letter from The Assistant Curate of Pagham

The sun is calling, the grass is growing and the boats are being dusted off from winter and pushed out to sea once more. Summer has, hopefully, arrived. For many the coming of the sun heralds a lifting of the spirits and a general improvement in health. It is a good season to look around us and notice what is there.
The warmer days of summer mean that we no longer have to rush inside to get warm or hide from the rain but that we can linger in the sun and take time to renew friendships with neighbours and those we meet around the village. I have found Pagham to be a friendly and welcoming place and the summer is a good time to put that into practice, deepening and growing those bonds of friendship.
For the church, the summer heralds a season of weddings, baptisms and holiday makers when we have the privilege of welcoming lots of visitors into our building to celebrate and relax. The church also serves tea and homemade cake every Sunday afternoon as part of our offer of hospitality and welcome to those from our own community and those visiting.
Jesus often talked about us offering help and friendship to our neighbours and those of us in the church try to be good neighbours to all those in the Parish of Pagham and we invite everyone to join us in this. Jesus showed us that each person we encounter can truly be described as our neighbour whether they are like us or not. As our national election fades in the memory, we can all now focus on our local community, making Pagham a place where no one feels lonely or unnoticed.
Why not invite one of your neighbours to join us in the church for a piece of tea and cake, or call our Pastoral Care team to refer someone you have been worried about, or even raise some funds for the Pagham Flood Defences as the whole village works together to support those whose homes are at risk on the beach. Together, we all make Pagham a friendly and welcome village for all.
