Pagham’s bell ringers are feeling very pleased with themselves following their success in the recent bell ringing competitions held on March 14th. These competitions, organised by the Western Division of the Sussex County Association of Change Ringers, take place annually and this year it was Pagham’s turn to host the event. Eight bands of ringers from churches in the west of the county took part in an afternoon of ringing, with teas provided by us and served in St Andrew’s Chapel to keep everyone going. There were two competitions; a call change competition with a silver cup for the winners, and a method ringing competition with a shield to be won. The judge was a notable ringer from the Southern Division who did not know the order in which the bands were ringing, so was completely unbiased. In the event, not only did Pagham ringers win the silver cup, but also the shield as well! A total of nine ringers made up our two bands (some of us ringing in both bands) including two who had never rung in a competition before – an excellent result!

We are always looking for new recruits and would welcome anyone showing an interest in becoming a bell ringer and joining our friendly group. Information is available on the notice board in the porch, or pop in and have a word with us on a Sunday morning if you would like to find out more.
