What is this event about?
Here at St Thomas à Becket’s we’re making plans for a Story of Pagham Weddings event that will be taking place this autumn, on Saturday 22nd September 2018.
During the course of the day there will be talks on the different aspects of getting married and how they have changed down the generations: the fashions, the music, the traditions. The church will be adorned by floral displays that reflect changing wedding trends, and which will serve as a backdrop to a wedding dress exhibition. Entry to the event will be by donation and there will be food and drink available for visitors throughout the day. Proceeds will go to our Raise the Roof campaign.
Why we need you
The exhibition is where we need you! If you were married at Pagham Church we would love to display your wedding dress. If you would like the opportunity to wear your dress again as a ‘live model’, that would be wonderful – or perhaps a daughter or friend could wear it for you; otherwise we will dress a mannequin. Don’t worry if your dress is muddy or torn – it’s the STORY behind the day we want to hear, and this could make things even more interesting! We’re looking to put together a display for each dress, to tell the wedding story around it. We’d love to hear all about your day – how you travelled to and from the church, what your service was like and definitely any funny or unusual tales. If you have items like your invitations, your service booklet and any photos, these could form part of your display. And if your groom, or anyone in your wedding party, wore interesting outfits that you have access to it would be lovely to show these along with your dress.
What taking part would involve
- Telling us about your day so that we can produce a written story for your display. Or if you’d prefer you can write this yourself.
- Deciding whether you wish to model your dress yourself/ask someone else to model it/have it displayed on a mannequin.
- Loaning us your wedding items (including the dress if you are not modelling it) in time for setting up Friday 21st September, until after the event. All items will be kept in a locked church overnight. You would of course be welcome to come and set up your display yourself when we’re getting ready on the Friday, or we can do this for you if you prefer.
We’re also on the lookout for mannequins/tailor’s dummies to borrow for this event – do please get in touch if you can help with this.
