SING SONGS! YOUR REWARD…A CREAM TEA!

That was the order of the afternoon on Saturday 17th August, with our faithful Organist Ann Gristwood and her Glenwood Singers, all organised by The Friends of St Thomas à Becket’s.

What a fun way to gather together as a loving community, where it was proved once again that those who wish to sing will always find a song to sing – and then enjoy their delicious cream teas even more! The Choir chose all the songs we love to hear and sing again and again and have done so for 9 years now.  Mo, Barbara, May and Sheila delighted us with their solos.

Sound a bit too parochial? Wrong! A beautiful song was sung in German for three guests of Stella – visitors from Baden-Wurttemberg – and they joined in heartily.

You may think you know the words to The Hills Are Alive With the Sound of Music.  Wrong! Marita has written these words – see whether you can fit them in with the tune:

The scones have arrived for your cream tea special, they’re piled up on plates in the rear Church Hall.

But please don’t stampede when we’ve finished singing, there are more than enough to supply you all.

The urn’s on the boil, and the tea-pot awaits along with the cups and the mugs.

The bowls are all filled with jam and cream and there’s milk in the jugs.

The ladies stand by to serve you in turn, as you wait in the queue.

While back in the Church, Glenwood Ladies are singing for you.

We’ve practised so long and have tried our hardest to entertain you, as we’ve done before.

If hearts can be blessed by our sound of music – then we’ll sing some more.

Marita also recited a humorous poem – The Battle of Hastings by Marriott Edgar.

The last song was Good Luck, Good Health, God Bless You and we all felt truly blessed by this charming afternoon.
